Wow! Day 1 Orientation

Today was our first day of orientation at IMD. We had meetings all morning (for students and partners) and then we had lunch in the "cafeteria." Nicholas will be very very well-fed while he is here, with no thanks to me.

I must describe this experience in detail and tomorrow I promise to paparazzi the place.

The dining room has chefs in full attire, staff to clear our plates after each course, and tables covered in white linen clothes. On each table, the utensils and clothe napkins are laid out along with two large bottles of pellegrino, one sparkling and one still. Once one bottle was finished, another magically appeared. If you prefer soda or juice, they have a full table of bottles of other soft drinks.

Today's menu included: duck and veal, along with salmon and really meaty anchovies (delicious!), a large variety of salads and vegetables, cheese plates, soup, pasta, potatoes au gratin, and of course dessert. I could have sat at the dessert table all day. Tiramisu, flan, apple tart, berry pie, l’ile flotante (floating island) which is a beautiful meringue floating in a cream sauce (cecilia's favorite), and then a healthy table to choose from, including: fruit, muesli, cottage cheese and yogurt.

Everyday that Nicholas has class, Monday-Saturday, he will be enjoying this level of service and food. The only difference will be the menu. Lucky guy! I told him that the reason they serve this spectacular lunch is to ensure the students come everyday, since the one thing everyone we spoke to during the day told us is how intense the program will be. They are smart. No matter how bad things may seem, if I know I am going to be fed like that, I will get through another day!

Side note: The partners will only be invited to one lunch a month... one. You can bet that that is one lunch I will never miss!

Anyways, after our fine dining experience, and several administrative meetings, we walked over to the IMD gym. Quite fitting after our filling lunch! This is one perk that partners get full access to, although since we won't be partaking in the indulgent lunches every day, we most likely won't need it! C'est la vie :)
